Email Solution

Because of the open nature of the email protocol, a message sent via email is no more private than one sent on a postcard.  Apart from the intended recipients other third party individuals - such as ISP operators and corporate system administrators - can easily gain access to email messages and readily read them due to a complete lack of protection.  Furthermore, since email messages are routinely stored and backed-up by various servers along the path of delivery, messages may continue to exist long after they have been deleted by the sender and/or receiver.  Finally, messages sent via email can easily be traced back to the sender.  Email is therefore not an ideal communication tool for individuals who wish to keep their identity private and/or anonymous.

PGuardian offers two solutions that address the most common privacy shortcomings of today's email technology:

PGuardian Email Encryption - This security utility integrates with your existing email application (i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, Lotus Notes) as a plug-in and provides strong encryption protection.  The encryption module has to be installed by the sender and all receivers of an encrypted message.  The module utilizes a public-key encryption scheme where pairs of keys are used to establish a secure method of transmitting data.  The first key, called a public key, is published for all to see.  The sender uses this key for encrypting data.  One particular computer user confidentially holds the second key, called a private key.  Only the private key can decrypt data that the corresponding public key encrypted.  PGuardian's email encryption module is based on PGP's (Pretty Good Privacy) tried and proven technology.  For more information about PGP, please visit www.pgpi.org.

PGuardian Email Anonymizer - This security utility employs remailer technology to keep the identity of the sender of an email message private and anonymous.  Email messages that go through regular, unprotected channels retain the identifiers of all the servers that they have passed through on their journey from the sender to the recipient.  By looking at server logs and message headers a determined investigator can easily discover the ISP and computer that was used to sent a message and thereby identify the sender as well.  Using PGuardian's utility, an individual sends a regular email message to a special address associated with PGuardian's remailer along with the final recipient's email address.  No human ever reads that email message;  the server's software responds by automatically generating a new, unique email address and associating it internally with the sender's address.  The remailer then automatically forwards the message to the intended recipient, but with one important change:  the forwarded message is stripped of any record of the sender's original name, address and IP information.  Replies to the sender's message are delivered to the remailer and then forwarded to the sender.  Installation of special software is not necessary.

PGuardian's email solutions can easily be adapted for use by consumers, companies and government agencies.
